I am in fact the girl in this clip. The chick, in the slip, in the clip, so to speak.
So here are some little known facts about this video that you probably don’t know.
The bathroom stuff was shot in an abandoned hospital in Rosebery in Sydney. The walls were sprayed with coffee to make them look old and dirty. Was pretty stinky and gave me a strange caffeine high.
The beach stuff was shot at Whale Beach in Sydney’s Northern Beaches. It was REALLY cold. I really am shivering in that water.
There were originally two girls in the clip. The girl on the ground at the beginning isn’t me. It ended up being too confusing so they cut out the other girl.
The director Cate Anderson kicked herself because the make up woman put too much make up on me, and even though she complained about it, ended up going with the make up woman’s advice that “no it’ll look great trust me”. It didn’t and ended up making all the close-ups of my face useless. That’s why you only see me pushing back the waves from behind, in profile or far away.
I didn’t have to audition for the clip, the Producer had seen my work at drama school and asked me to be in it. Nice. However I was only paid $500. Meh, totally did it for the cred.
As a footnote, when the clip came out I was working on Home and Away for a couple of months as an evil English backpacker. You know the type. Ryan Kwanten of True Blood fame who played Vinnie at the time made a point of coming up to me and said “really good job on the Silverchair clip”. I’m sure he remembers.
No more minor bragging or name dropping for me.
Cheers
Sarah Aubrey
